Derby City Council is currently consulting on their plan for addressing air quality improvements in Derby.
You’re encouraged to read the documentation and to submit your comments before the deadline of 24th December 2026.
The plan details and the consultation form can be found here.
A key section of the action plan is said to be to improve provision for active travel within the city. The actions that are planned include:
- Bus priority along Duffield Road and Osmaston Road – these plans were proposed previously and, after feedback, the decision was made to cancel the plans. In particular, the Duffield Road plans made things significantly worse for cyclists.
- The RIghts of Way Improvement Plan is to be implemented. As the last plan that Derby have produced only ran until 2017, an updated plan would be a good action.
- An action is to “consider” the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). As this LCWIP is based on data collected prior to 2018, the LCWIP creation process was flawed, and the LCWIP should be renewed every 5 years, a better action would be to recreate the LCWIP using a more effective process.
The goals of the plan should be supported (improving air quality) but the specifics of how this can be achieved seem to be lacking in detail in many places and, in places, is already out of date.
You’re encouraged to review the plan and make your own comments.
