Park where you like near schools

We have had long term discussions with the City Council about the flaunting of the yellow line parking restrictions on Duffield Road. These discussions have all been unsuccessful.

The sum effect of the Council’s (lack of) action is that motorists can reasonably feel free to ignore all yellow line parking restrictions near to schools – surely not what the Derby council tax payers want?

The Council have consistently said that the situation with enforcement is “complicated” but, for over nine years, have not identified a solution. And, there still seems to be no willingness to find a solution for the future.

So, if you’re a motorist looking for a parking spot in Derby City, try to find yellow lines near to a school and, past experience is that you’ll be okay parking there. Never mind that you cause congestion, make any cycle lanes unusable, and become a danger to cyclists – just be confident that the Council will not be enforcing your selfish flaunting of the no-parking restrictions.

If you think this approach from the Council is not what the vast majority of people want, then please make your views known to your elected representatives. Ask them to pressure the Council officers to find a solution and don’t be satisfied with replies such as “it’s complicated, we’ll look into it” which Derby Cycling Group and others have been receiving for many years. Instead insist that some solution is found.
