New cycle filter in Allestree

A new (small) piece of infrastructure opened this week in Allestree at the junction of Allestree Lane and Kedleston Road (outside the Markeaton pub).

A “cut through” road has been restricted by narrowing, some bollards and legal restrictions to prevent motor traffic from using the cut-through. This work is in preparation for new traffic lights at the junction and the expectation (now forestalled) of drivers using the cut-through to avoid the traffic lights.

Pleased to see that the filter has been built to allow cyclists to pass through and this should make the (short) route a good alternative to part of the unsatisfactory (for cyclists) Kedleston Road.

Also pleased to see that cycle parking stands have been installed outside the pub.

Now looking forward to seeing more bollards further towards the city on roads alongside Kedleston Road. This would prevent the “rat running” along cut through roads which are nominally “access only” but where this restriction is rarely enforced.

Another good bit of infrastructure from Derby City Council (there’s still plenty for them to work on!).
