The analysis previously done in 2021 of where bicycle thefts occur across the county has been re-done to include data for the period 2018 to 2023.
During 2023, there were a total of 678 bicycle thefts in the county of which 431 (64%) are within Derby City and of which 172 (25% of the county figures, 40% of the Derby figures) are within the city centre.
The graph shows the recent downward trend in bicycle crime in the city centre but with a worrying upturn for 2023. There remains a problem with nearly all the crimes not resulting in any punishment.
