We’re pleased to hear that the City Council are acting quickly to restore the cycle and pedestrian access across the Darley Abbey Bridge that was suddenly closed due to unexpected safety issues.
As this route is part of the National Cycle Network (RCN 66) it is important to restore any closures as soon as possible. Imagine what pressure there would be on restoring any gap in the national road network!
The understanding is that a temporary structure will be built across the top of the existing unsafe bridge and that this structure will provide for pedestrian and cycle access across the river. It may be necessary to push bikes across the new structure.
Well done to the City Council for acting quickly to provide a solution (even though the original, damaged structure wasn’t their responsibility) and well done for ensuring that cycles are included as part of the solution.
