Guns for cycling

Cyclists have many complaints about other road users but perhaps things aren’t as bad as they used to be. This site has a good selection of adverts for firearms suitable for cyclists.

For only 12 shillings (60p to the youngsters) you can protect yourself from all kinds of threats, including tramps! I particularly like the cyclist’s rifle.

The site also publicises a forthcoming book that looks like it will be interesting.

  1. The tiny (wee) town of Poolewe in the far NW of Scotland, stands alongside Loch Ewe where warships and convoys were assembled prior to sailing to the North coast of Russia during WW2.
The loch is surrounded by mountains on which there were anti-aircraft guns to defend the ships from attack by German bombers, and some of the guns were manned by the local Home Guard.
The story goes that one of the Home Guard mounted a machine gun on his bike pointing forward from the handlebars. I have often wondered what happened when he fired it (if he ever did), and if so, did the recoil propel him and the bike in the reverse direction?
Be that as it may, I would not have liked to meet him coming in the opposite direction
    on a dark night.
