Love to Ride’s first event of the year starts in a couple of weeks. Love to Ride is an online community where you can track your rides, share goals and take part in challenges throughout the year. The aim of Ride to Work week is to engage existing cycle commuters and encourage people who already ride for fitness or leisure to try riding for transport.
There are many advantages of riding to work; saving money, keeping fit and above all, it is fun (especially beating the traffic!). Riding to work reduces the risk of premature death by 41 per cent – it can literally save your life!
Whatever your motivation – whether it’s the climate emergency, losing weight, getting fitter or saving money – riding to work will help you achieve your goal and enjoy lots of other benefits. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never ridden to work, if you’ve just got out of the habit over winter or if you ride every day come rain or shine, you’re invited to take part in Ride to Work Week.
If you’re not confident riding to work, ask someone who rides regularly if they can help you find the best route to take and share any useful local knowledge. If they live near you, ask if they will meet up and ride in with you one day so you can see how they deal with any busy roads or tricky junctions. You can get adult cycle training from experts to show you how to ride confidently and Love to Ride will be sharing lots of tips and tricks to make riding to work a breeze.
If you already enjoy the benefits of commuting by bike, Ride to Work Week is the perfect time to spread the love and help your friends, family and colleagues switch to two wheels too. Can you buddy up with someone to ride in with them? Do you know quiet routes and handy shortcuts you can share? Can you put on a Bike Breakfast to encourage your colleagues to ride in?
As well as bikes, more bikes and a Ribble e-bike worth £1,800, Love to Ride will be giving away some great gear too. They’ve got two Beryl Laserlights they’ll be giving away to early-bird registrants (just visit the site to register for the event before Monday 16 March) and three more they’ll be giving away in social media promos. They’ll also be making a wave with some of Loffi’s great gloves, designed to foster positive communication between road users.
To give yourself and your colleagues the best chance of winning, make sure you sign yourself and your workplace up for Ride to Work Week 2020! It is completely free and only takes a minute at lovetoride.net/derby.
