On the 2nd September, Parliament will debate the motion: That this house supports the recommendations of the All-Party Parliamentary Cycling Group’s report ‘Get Britain Cycling’; endorses the target of 10 per cent of all journeys being by bike by 2025, and 25 per cent by 2050; and calls on the Government to show strong political leadership, including an annual Cycle Action Plan and sustained funding for cycling.
In order to get the widest and most positive involvement of Parliament, please consider urging your local MP to attend the debate and to support the motion. You can write to your MP at this link by inputting your postcode.
Cyclenation/CTC will be briefing key MPs on the arguments in support of increased cycling provision and will be using the points detailed in the document here.
A report on the debate can be found at http://road.cc/content/news/92382-get-britain-cycling-debate-sees-issues-take-centre-stage-house-commons
The only local MP who spoke in the debate was Pauline Latham who called for a cycle path following the Derwent north of Derby. There is no “register” taken of attendance so it is not possible to see which other local MPs attended.
