We hope it is useful and informative. It is not a definitive legal definition, but is intended to help people understand the principles of the access which each sign is intended to convey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Only the rules as they apply to cycling are described.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-45258 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"233\" \/><\/strong><strong>Cycling allowed between 5pm and 10am only.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A bicycle is a vehicle, therefore the \u201cno vehicles\u201d sign prohibits bicycles except at the times shown.<\/p>\n<p>St Peter\u2019s Street and Cornmarket<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/2018\/07\/st-peters-street-and-cornmarket-cycle-access-5pm-to-10am\/signage-city-centre-003\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-45260\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45260 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a>2. Cycling allowed 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sign excludes motor vehicles, and because a bicycle is not a motor vehicle it is allowed to be ridden on this street. E-bikes are not classed as motor vehicles, so these can be ridden where motor vehicles are prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>Irongate and Amen Alley<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/2018\/07\/st-peters-street-and-cornmarket-cycle-access-5pm-to-10am\/signage-city-centre-002\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-45259\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45259 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a>3. Cycling allowed between 5pm and 10 am everyday. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here, at the bottom of Irongate, motor vehicles cannot access Cornmarket, so the \u201cexception\u201d sign is slightly different to some other places.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/2018\/07\/st-peters-street-and-cornmarket-cycle-access-5pm-to-10am\/signage-city-centre-005\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-45262\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45262 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-005.jpg 167w, https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-005-160x300.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 167px) 100vw, 167px\" \/><\/a>4. Cycling not allowed at any time, except for loading and unloading between 5pm and 10am.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A bicycle is a vehicle and is therefore prohibited from this street unless delivering or picking up items to an address on the street, or an address accessed from it,\u00a0 between the times shown. In Derby many of these streets are one-way, and there is no cycle exception to this.<\/p>\n<p>East Street, Exchange Street, St Peters Churchyard, Sadler Gate, St James\u2019 Street<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/2018\/07\/st-peters-street-and-cornmarket-cycle-access-5pm-to-10am\/signage-city-centre-004\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-45261\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45261 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/derbycyclinggroup.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Signage-City-Centre-004.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"123\" \/><\/a>5. Cycling not allowed at any time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a one-way street, and no vehicles (which includes bicycles) can enter.
